I love this quote from the book ‘God Laughs and Plays’ by David James Duncan:
“When small things are done with love, it’s not a flawed you or me who does them: it’s love. I have no faith in any political party, left, right or centrist. I have boundless faith in love. In keeping with this faith, the only spiritually responsible way I know to be a citizen, artist, or activist in these strange times is by giving little or no thought to ‘great things’ such as saving the planet, achieving world peace, or stopping neocon greed. Great things tend to be undoable things. Whereas small things, lovingly done, are always within our reach.”
Such a great reminder, especially in an election year! In the big picture, what really heals us and brings us peace? Where does a peace that surpasseth all understanding come from?
It really won’t come from our elected officials. True peace comes from being happy in your skin, right now. No matter who is elected, change on a mass scale is a process. The greed and power games probably won’t change overnight. Yet I look forward to seeing changes that originate from the awareness of love!
But what is of importance to me must be done and implemented in my life by me, no matter what others are doing or not doing. It is up to me to set a space in my home that is nourishing. It is my job to treat others as I would like to be treated. It is my job to reflect and respond to life as much as I can from an awareness of unity and love, whether I am teaching, shopping, eating, hiking, meditating or being bothered by something.
No matter what is going on in the world, it is up to me to do the small things from love that I feel are important.
Fortunately we are blessed with many wonderful souls on the planet whose interests vary so we don’t have to do it all ourselves. We are in this together!
There are the driven activists who are focused 24/7 on getting the changes made. There are the lightworkers and energy healers who work the front lines and see that people are healing and learning. There are the souls dedicated to the earth and our ecosystems. The meditators offer us all a peaceful energy to match and hold it all together. And there are the souls here to be compassionate, no matter what they are doing. Of course we can each be a blend of these focuses. But we need them all and it’s nice to know we support one another.
You may not have the desire to be an activist or deal with large groups of people. Maybe your gift is your quiet beingness! Or, you are a healer, helping keep systems in place for our etheric and physical well-being. Many of the compassionate ones don’t even know they are intuitive or what an aura is. They just naturally come from the heart.
I love seeing more and more people finding that place of compassion within themselves. Sometimes it takes a life change to stimulate it. Sometimes it evolves slowly over time as we realize that caring for another and truly following the Golden Rule, as much as possible, is something to aspire to.
As a minister and healer, I see daily the situations people find themselves in that require such love, compassion and patience. And I see all these big-hearted people stepping up to care for a loved one who is elderly or involved in an intense health issue. Or to help people who need food and support with their children. Or to counsel people who are dealing with depression, PTSD or mental illness. And think of all the health-care folks who work 12-hour shifts, animal-lovers who assist pets and wildlife, advisors who help people struggling with career, money and health insurance.
Who has a loved one who is bed-ridden? Who has lost a child or another close friend or family member?
We don’t know what is happening behind closed doors, or what the person is dealing with who we are standing behind at the grocery store.
No matter what our government looks like, or our schools, or who gets to use what bathroom, small acts of love are free and powerful. They can make a profound impact on a person. Maitreya says you will know you are enlightened when being of service is your highest desire.
What is your way of being of service? Remember, it need not be earth-shattering and make the front page! But wouldn’t that be cool? Announcing to the world that your smile made someone’s day!
Your prayers and peaceful thoughts heal the world. So does helping a neighbor. Maybe you have to care for a loved one. If you are an activist and keep us informed about what’s happening in the world with our water, food, air, child services or equality, thank you!
None of us have to do it all, just small things with love! How sweet is that? Take a moment to breathe, relax into yourself, and let your attention be within you and the small things you lovingly do for yourself and others.
And then, validate what you do in the world. Some days we have a lot to offer. Other days you may just need to rest and nourish yourself. Can that be okay? It’s hard to be of service if you are too sick and tired! Sometimes, it’s your turn to receive!
Our classes and workshops are created to help guide you to your inner answers and love-based purpose. Come get a free aura healing at our healing clinic, or rejuvenate at our monthly church service. Join us for a class! We are doing this together!
May you be blessed and supported on your path. ❦
