Fasting from food increases clarity and mindfulness. It has been a part of human life forever, either by necessity or choice. It reminds us of the duality of body and spirit and empowers us as we remember, “I can do hard things!” It creates gratitude for the plants and animals which feed us. It increases our receptivity for the Sacred, draws us closer to it and deepens our relationship with Source. Religious teachings are full of reports of men and women who have fasted for devotion, communication with God, and to offer their dedication in prayer.
In this four week class you will learn the basics of establishing a fasting practice: how to safely abstain from food and for how long; how to break a fast and what foods to eat; working with cultural programming around not eating; how to shift your food-habit mindset; how fasting works to enhance your physical and mental health, increase psychic awareness and how to use it to deepen meditation and prayer.
You will receive handouts and resource suggestions for fasting. An optional challenge will be extended to support building a fasting habit during the four weeks. Improved health, decreased pain and weight loss are possible side effects.
