If you’re fortunate enough to have a woman’s body this lifetime and you’re tuned in to your natural feminine vibration, you know that the challenges facing women in this day and age are very real. As women, our hearts naturally open to others. We give. We support. We nourish people, animals and plants who are in need of our unique female gifts.
Because of our individual roles as healers on Earth, we can become depleted from our giving. It’s important to ask, “When do we create time to give to ourselves?”
When we’re not tending to family, friends and work situations, we may turn to social media, movies, YouTube and other electronic stimuli, which may or may not satisfy and heal us on a deeper level.
So how can we care for ourselves more fully each day? One way is to consciously become more present with yourself as you connect with one or more of your senses.
Consider bringing meaningful sound into your life as you notice the feelings it evokes. Do you have chimes, a bell, a gong or another musical instrument? Experiment with playing it and allowing the sound to resonate within you.
Passively listening to relaxing music can help ease daily stress. Try sitting quietly with your eyes closed as you allow sweet melodies, or ocean waves, to soothe you.
Bird songs are another amazing source of inner healing. Find a day to take a walk and simply listen to the musical gifts of your feathered friends. You could even sing or hum back to them!
Find a day to celebrate sights that bring you joy. You might choose one object in your home to admire. Or sitting near a window, allow the dance of a tree’s leaves to mesmerize you. And it’s always fun to drop by an art gallery or museum for a true feast for the eyes.
Better yet, pull out your crayons or paints to have a little colorful fun yourself. It’s all about play.
The sense of smell can evoke very deep memories within us. What are your favorite scents — roses, a pine forest, lavender. Bring cherished smells into your life consciously on a daily basis and notice how they can uplift your mood.
I like to carry a bottle of essential oil with me so that I can smell it throughout the day, helping me to find a place of peace.
One of the great pleasures in life is the simple joy of tasting food. What tastes bring you joy — baked cinnamon anything, honey, chai, salted nuts, a juicy orange, olives, spicy guacamole, even a humble banana?
When you eat, leave your electronic screen in another room as you create an intimate setting to enjoy your meal or snack. Sit, relax and savor the nourishing flavors of your food.
And be grateful for the powerful life force energy that fortifies your body with each bite.
The sense of touch is an incredible way to soothe and nurture yourself. When I was a child, my grandmother made my family a quilt. One piece of it near the edging was of brown velvet. Many nights, I fell asleep with my finger on this soft piece of velvet.
Shea butter can be a luxurious lotion to lather on your skin. Or hold a stone or crystal in your hand, allowing your body heat to infuse it with warmth. And how about a soft, cozy blanket with a cup of tea?
If you share your home with a dog or cat, really notice how calming it can be to pet their fur. It’s been proven to help lower blood pressure.
