This morning I’m teaching Not My Problem to students in the Clairvoyant Program.
It’s one of my favorite classes, although my students will report that I say that about all my classes (I do, I love all of the topics, most of the time). It’s a beautiful thing, learning to manage one’s own energy, although this subject does light students up as they visit various people and experiences in their lives with which peace seems impossible.
In class, students pick a discordant situation or a complicated relationship to look at intuitively. The energy around our problems is cooperative and relatively obedient, and it will usually show up as opaque, dark or cloudy, sticky and so on. This energy is almost never “us” and, though it’s often what I would call unattractive to look at, it’s true that foreign energy will sometimes show up as perfectly lovely in an attempt to squeak something by us, unnoticed! I always find this amusing.
When we drain the energies that aren’t ours out of a problem, it tends to get lighter and brighter. We begin to uncover our own high-vibrating, supportive energies that are waiting patiently to support us. We may notice the problem becomes energetically smaller and, in some cases, it disappears altogether. We may realize it wasn’t ours to begin with!
I helped a student look at a long-standing, consuming problem a few weeks ago in a reading. It started out as a thick and unpleasant energy that sort of hung there and made it very hard for her to relax and enjoy her life. As she said hello to the problem, she was able to identify qualities in its energy like despair, resistance, helplessness, shame and so on.
As Mary Bell would say, “isn’t it great?” I was very excited for my student, because it is great! The more you do this work the more freeing it is to know that difficult energy can be identified, it’s usually not ours, it can be very easy to move, and we can replace it with something that feels good – and all of it with ease. What’s not to like?
I helped the student release energy that wasn’t hers from the problem and we watched it change. It went from dark and sticky and gross in appearance, to light and beautiful and the energy actually shrank to a size that looked a lot more manageable. It no longer hung there like a dismal curtain over her world! I watched as her spirit stood up straighter and started tapping into more of her own power.
Talking to the student a little while later, it seems that she’s found some freedom around the problem. She’s much more neutral; it no longer dominates her consciousness. She told me she actually forgets about it at times and that a key relationship around the issue has become much easier.
Sometimes, when we look at the energy of a problem, we actually discover that the problem disappears completely once the energies that don’t belong to us are drained away. That’s an important discovery! As healers, many of us instinctively give to others whether we’re asked to or not. Over time, it can become our default to swoop in and attempt to fix things that aren’t ours to fix. Often, we want to resolve their problem as if it were our own, but each person has their own path and their own answers. We can make it harder for them to access their information because now, we’re energetically in their way.
It’s so fun to watch a student discover that a problem doesn’t actually have anything to do with them, and they can just let it go. Once they do that exercise a few times, they can begin to look at all their problems with more neutrality! Having that ability to discern and release is pretty simple but it’s also a little like magic, isn’t it?
Blessings, as always on your journey. Thanks for coming along on this wild ride!
