What makes us old inside? I recently taught meditation and healing to a lovely group of 15 women and one man. They were between 60 and 80 years old and full of vitality and spunk. Their minds were sharp even if their bodies were more tired than they were at 40. Here is a group of people still young inside, full of curiosity and willing to keep trying new things. They were delighted to try the energy tools they learned in class, use them in their everyday life, and watch the fun changes that ensued. By the end of 7 weeks they all looked younger, lighter and sparkling with their own essence. I think when we stop learning and growing, we start to become old inside. We have all known people who resisted change and stopped their own growing process. Many times the very things that actually would have helped them shift made them plant their feet firmly in the ground and not budge. Resistance is fear; fear of change and the growth it brings. What makes us loosen up and keep learning is amusement and laughter. When you can laugh at yourself no matter what life throws your way, you start to heal the seriousness that makes you feel stuck. The other day I was on hold for about 15 minutes. While I waited I had my phone on speaker so I could get ready for work. When the agent came on, I went to take the phone off speaker but hit the end button instead. Of course it would do no good to try to call back — it would have been another 15 minute wait and I was out of time. All I could do was laugh at my mistake and try later in the day. Instead of beating ourselves up for making mistakes, we can instead learn to accept and embrace them as we move on with grace. Find a place in your life where you feel stuck and see it with new eyes. Look at it from all angles and discover what you are learning from the experience. Just a willingness to re-engage lets the energy begin to shift. Enjoy your life and never let the twinkle in your eye go dull! Namaste. |
