A place healers often fall short is in taking care of themselves. When our cup is full, we can give and extend healing to those around us with the greatest of ease. But when our cup is empty, we drain our own energy to help others and end up resenting them. Where do you as a healer fall into this dilemma? All of us strive for balance but lose it now and then. Family and friend emergencies do happen but living in the constant stream of energy demand takes its toll. What are things you can do to ensure your own healing balance so you do not burn out?
Relaxation, meditation and massage are all ways of taking just a little bit of time for yourself. Reward yourself for all that you do! At any time, think of something that made you laugh or smile, even from a long time ago. Notice how even that small action can lighten your day. Take deep breaths and think about how lucky you are and all that you have. Shift your focus from a negative issue and return to gratitude. Have some fun. Instead of thinking about other people so much, think about yourself. You could treat yourself to a movie, lunch with a friend or anything that gives you a break and allows you to loosen up and relax.
If you find yourself unhappy frequently, talk to a trusted family member, friend, or a licensed therapist. Journal or write down what is sad or overwhelming. Feelings heal better when they are expressed. What experiences are causing you to be unhappy or agitated? Dig deep and find the source so you can change it. Remember that you won’t be tired or worn out forever and you will feel good again. In periods of stress, feed yourself well with lots of protein and vegetables, get 9 hours of sleep and some kind of light exercise or movement. Get out and go for a walk or change your scenery. You’ll start to feel alive again.
Get a reading or healing that assists you in finding the energy that keeps you out of balance with yourself. You are worth it! As you reclaim your energy, take charge of your calendar and write in breaks, acupuncture or massage times before you fill in the rest of the month. If you don’t take time for yourself you just won’t get it. For the next month, try balancing your giving time with your receiving time so you end up a happy camper. Here’s to being a healer on the planet and a happy one at that. Namaste.
