Meditation is the understanding of life—everyday life with all its complexity. From misery, sorrow, loneliness and despair to fear, envy and wanting to be successful. All of this is part of meditation—being present to each part of us.
Meditation is the way of life every day, hour, minute and second. It is the state of being. How do we keep this perpetual state of meditation with an honest mind? We watch our brains and thoughts because they want to distort reality and make something “what it should be” instead of “what is.”
Meditation is learning to live with what is. We can see “what is” with a quiet mind. As we heal within, we can then take that healed space out into the world and be with the changes. So it is up to each of us to heal that part of fear inside of us—the anxiousness that is created out of wanting it to be what we think it should be instead of what is.
It is like a fifth grader staring longingly at an eighth grader shooting basketballs. We want to already be able to have the same skills. Even if we don’t have the same life experience, we want it!! It is when we pull back and give ourselves room to grow and experience life first-hand that we truly see and get the entirety of the game. Time is an amazing teacher. It gives us the ability to find neutrality, to be open to all the choices and to pick the one that serves the whole instead of just the “only me.”
When a person is in the “me” phase, they only see and experience life from a very narrow point of view. They tend to see life as a means to an end, grabbing what they can, from a fear-based resonance. As a spirit grows it sees outside the me to the we—that which benefits all of humankind. This is what helps us move forward as a whole, sustaining everyone. It is realizing that all of humankind— the animals and the earth itself are connected—and when we harm one part, we harm ourselves.
In January, I will host a free Saturday night workshop each week that guides you through using and trusting your intuition in the world. Please see our events section on the website for the Zoom login numbers and join us. Namaste.
