Use your tools!

[About Mary Bell Nyman]

I was talking to a good friend the other day who was thinking about teaching a class of energy tools to a group of sailors. What tools would they use if a high wind came up, the boat was taking on water, or someone fell overboard—realistic things that can happen when you are out for a day of boating. I starting thinking about teaching a class and writing an eBook about how to use energy tools in everyday life situations.
Which tools would you use if your boss was angry with you and it is really a coworker’s fault? How do you clear the energy in your relationship space that makes communication hard? How can you learn to let your mate grow at a different rate than you? How do you work through old fear pictures that make it hard for you to open up sexually with your partner?
When I am faced with an emergency, I ground and center myself. Then I can look quickly at what the situation calls for from a place of neutrality. Grounding allows me to focus and brings the spirit part of me into the body. The soul’s wisdom carries the answer and has the information we need to take our next steps. It is really hard to make good choices if you the spirit is out of your body.
Next, I use a tool called a rose. As a fence defines the edge of the yard, the rose defines the edge of your aura. It lets me know where my energy boundary begins. When someone comes up to me with a serious problem, they tend to try and run the emotion of the issue through my body. If they succeed, I can feel the same intensity they feel! The problem with that, is while I may be able to sympathize with them, I am not very effective in helping them. I would be in the same boat with them. Tee hee! So, I use a rose to collect all that emotional intensity and let release it down into the earth in a neutral vibration that doesn’t hurt the earth. With my rose up, I can be present and help them find a solution to whatever their problem is. This helps me be a good listener so I can help them discover their own answers.
I use energy tools everyday no matter where I am—the grocery store, waiting in a doctor’s office, mailing packages at the post office, at work and even with my animals at home. I like moving through the world with my awareness and not unconsciously trying to make things come together. Living from a place of conscious awareness lets me choose more of how I want to respond to the situations life brings. It slows down time enough so that I can pick choice a, b or c.
Here’s one last example. A friend’s son hadn’t called to talk to her for several months and she was quite annoyed. The same day, he called. The first thing out of her mouth was an angry berating for not calling more often! I shook my head, thinking; “Now I know why he doesn’t call.” How much fun is she to be with? Yes, she could have expressed how much she missed him, but the way she did it, I can only imagine him hanging up and thinking, “I won’t call again for a very long time.” She couldn’t see she was a big part of the problem. To her, it is all about him. It was sad, because they both really want the same thing; to know they are loved and reach out to each other. Simple energy tools could really help the situation!
To enhance your ability to use your energy tools in everyday life, look for our upcoming workshop “Using Your Intuition and Energy in Everyday Life” (page 8) or take a How To Heal Yourself class. Life doesn’t have to be so hard.
