hange seems to be the word of the day around here.  People are demanding to be heard and their voices will bring about the changes they are seeking.  More and more people are asking for their freedom and the right  to live their lives without fear, prejudice and judgment.

Women are demanding that Wal-Mart give them equal salaries and job opportunities. Gay and lesbian couples are demanding the right to marry their partners and have the same benefits as traditional couples. Different religious groups are finding common ground and working together instead of focusing on their differences.

In the chaplains group at Hospice, ministers of different faiths work together, sharing their methods and rituals of spiritual prayer and communication. Each month a different minister presents their spiritual tools for working with a patient and their family. We all learn from each other and see how interconnected all our spiritual disciplines are. It is through discovering our differences that we find out how similar we are.  Change is something we learn to make friends with and embrace instead of resisting it. Resistance comes from fear<fear that we wonąt get our needs met, fear that we won't be heard, fear that we will be wrong, fear that we will have to change. Fear, fear, fear!

Change is something we all learn to live with, and it is as natural as breathing. When we learn to flow with life and not fight it, we begin to find peace within. Instead of holding on to the old ways and wishing the world was the way it was in the 70s, we find integrity in the new ways and excitement about what we will be learning next. Practice beginning each day as an opportunity to begin again, fresh and new, unhampered by the past.  Look at your own life and find something you have been resisting. Maybe it is time to move to a new house, end a relationship that no longer serves you, or find that next job. Give yourself permission to take your next step, no matter how scary it looks. Change is our best teacher and the Universe always finds just the right ways to set up learning opportunities for us. Trust that you will find what you seek, and enjoy your change.
