couple of weeks ago, I watched a segment of The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. In an interview with Shashi Tharoor of the United Nations, Lehrer asked him what he felt was missing in the news today.  Tharoor said we seem to be focusing so much on Iraq, and while it is important news, he felt there were many other stories that were being left out and deserved our attention.

I was amazed when Tharoor said the United Nations felt like the stories of peace were being left out of the headline news. He cited several countries that have settled the wars within their boundaries and are living peacefully together. He said they are seeking trained peacemakers to help keep the truces these countries have agreed upon and are now living.

Another interesting fact Tharoor shared is that many of the new peacekeepers and cabinet members are women. In Rowanda, 45 seats in the government are held by women. They are dedicated to keeping the peace and healing their country. I see many more women stepping up to the plate to help preserve harmony in the world.

More of the feminine, nurturing energy is coming back to the planet. People are realizing that the only way to make the changes we all want to see is by rolling up their sleeves and diving in. The volunteer committees in Boulder are growing and many more people are getting involved in the communities projects. The Daily Camera, a newspaper here in Boulder, lists many different groups that are seeking volunteers.

Ask yourself how you can help support your community where you live. Even if it is just for two hours a week, that time adds up and makes a huge difference. You are something money can't buy. What you have to offer is priceless and a gift only you can give. Look around for something that sparks your interest. That way, you are learning more about that project while you are volunteering your time. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and so much to share. I look forward to seeing you out in our Boulder community.
