hings have shifted on the planet since 9/11, and responses are varied depending on the individual and the scare of the week, from war to fear of terrorists. Itıs enshrouded in gray, there's no black and white. No obvious answers, no easily identifiable villains, no easy way to feel protected. Yet people demand protection and answers now and they want it completely. But they're not willing to look at the fact that itıs impossible for anyone outside of ourselves to grant us complete and guaranteed protection from anything.

Think of a treasure, like a newborn baby. How could you protect it 24-hours a day, thoroughly and completely? It would mean staying up 24-hours a day, and having the infant in your sight always, no exceptions. Any lapse in your vigilance could result in the loss of your infant, anything could happen.

As you look at all the changes, the choices to choose from around how to feel safe and secure may seem hard, a struggle or obscure. Things may seem too complex to be solved. Figuring it all out doesnıt seem to work, there are no set answers, and boy do we hate that!  One reason I see for the gray area in all these challenges is that our world is transforming spiritually, not intellectually. It's not an intellectual exercise that could keep an infant safe 24 hours a day, it's too mind boggling to contemplate. It's the same with our own safety. The idea that our lives are ephemeral is not new as of September, 2002 but itıs certainly magnified our awareness of mortality, and I see this as a good thing. It's making us shift from our minds to our enduring spiritual selves and find ways to have peace within, wherever we are. Ghandi desired to have the last words out of his mouth be Rama, a Hindu aspect of God. When he was assassinated, that was his last word to his assassin. He had trained his mind to accommodate his spiritual self, and it worked. I look to his teachings and others to help me practice having more love and peacefulness in my conscious awareness- no matter what is happening around me.

It's not up to others to create this space within me, this is my creation.  It is my daily intent, so I attract people and circumstances daily to support it.

How do you make this spiritual shift more real for you? Simplify your spiritual information by going directly to the source and meditate on what the Supreme Being wishes from you. Notice that you rarely are guided to figure anything out. Rather it's an instruction on how to be in the moment.  Choose to do things that are meaningful and bring you purposeful growth.  Separate truth from illusion in your life. Live each moment from love and clarity and let the circumstances on the planet be a steppingstone on your spiritual journey and that of all beings. Have a blessed and peaceful 2004!
